Holidays, summer, white dress, next

I recently escaped for some much needed Vitamin D and a chilled out week for a holiday to the gorgeous little fishing town of Alvor in Portugal and have been dreaming about it ever since our return.  I had been to Portugal years ago and have completely fallen in love with it all over again! And being from Cork, of course it is absolutely ideal to be able to fly direct and land at your destination in just a few short hours.

The Hotel

We booked through Lee Travel on Princes Street, Cork.  Having dealt with the lovely Maria on a few occasions she is, as all their team are, brilliant to deal with.  It’s nice to have someone do all the booking and work for you sometimes!  We stayed in the AMAZING 4 star Pestana Alvor South Beach hotel and I could not recommend it enough with it’s contemporary and gorgeous décor and relaxed vibe, making it an ideal getaway.  I could rave about it forever (did I mention the three infinity pools?!), but I have included the link above for you to see for yourself.

Beach, Portugal, beach restaurant, places to eat

The fact that it was seconds from the beach (you get that gorgeous Algarve sea-breeze tan!) was a massive plus and connected by a gorgeous boardwalk that runs the entire length of the beach.  This also leads into the little town, a mere 5 minutes walk away.  An absolutely perfect and ideal location.

The town itself is super quaint and was not over-run at the time we visited.  However a few locals did mention to avoid in August if you are thinking of travelling here as, like all sun destinations, it is an incredibly busy time!  Being a little fishing town, there was an abundance of the most delicious fresh fish everywhere you go and being a total foodie, I was so impressed with the selection of gorgeous restaurants on offer.  You can imagine my absolute delight when we discovered a gorgeous mediterranean restaurant called Lusitania that served up delicious organic food that included vegetarian and vegan dishes! Needless to say, we visited this particular place a good few times during our stay.

Just a few of my favourite and best places to eat in Alvor:

Ze Morgadinho

Alvor Wine

The Sea Deck Bar & Restaurant – if you are staying at the Pestana South Beach, this bar and restaurant is part of the hotel but located just to the rear exterior of the hotel on the boardwalk and so is available to anyone visiting Alvor.  An ideal spot for lunch if you are staying at the hotel and don’t feel like venturing too far or just for a cheeky glass of vino soaking up the rays and gazing out to sea….Take me back!!

If you have any further questions on Alvor that I can help with, please feel free to leave a comment.

In the meantime, I’m off to research my next adventure! (Now where did I leave that bag of money….) 😉

 Confirmation / Communions / Christenings

These occasions can be a bit tedious to plan an outfit for – you don’t want to be too overdressed or underdressed! Enter the jumpsuit. The perfect piece that will take you from day to night.  Here are some of my favourites:

Moon River, Asos, Jumpsuit

Moon River @ ASOS Embroidered Jumpsuit

Oh, this Moon River one from ASOS has to be my favourite – ok, maybe a little tricky to keep clean!, but oh so pretty and uber classy. This would also be so perfect for the afters of a wedding for a bride! The next one from River Island is also super pretty and the little frill cap sleeves are also so flattering if you are conscious of the arms (as we all are!)

River Island Cream Floral Culotte Jumpsuit

If you wanted to keep it a little more casual and more comfortable, the ole’ skinny jeans will never let you down! The ones featured are from River Island – I have to admit, nearly all my jeans are from here, I just love the fit of them on and they are so reasonable and high quality for a high street brand. You can’t go wrong!  As the weather improves, pair them with a top, layer with a kimono, pop on a pair of wedges and you’re good to go.  The lace kimono I found below is actually from the beachwear section of River Island but you can also get some beautiful ones here.

Next up, this divine dusty pink number from Folkster.  It is paired with one of their belts here which you can add too or leave it as is without.  This is definitely a dress you can get away with anytime during the summer too, dressing it down with ankle booties for a real bohemian / festival look.  Definitely high on my lust list.

If you want to change it up slightly, you could mix and match a top and skirt combo like these ones.

Finally, these dresses from Revolve and Zara are the perfect little numbers to take you from occasion wear to weekend wear with your favourite sandals or booties!

There is no doubt about it – when Spring has sprung, I am instantly refreshing my wardrobe! Let’s be honest, winter in Ireland is long, drab and dark and the need for brighter tones once March arrives is instant! Plus many of us have just finished paying endless January and February bills after the Christmas period! Light knits can be so easy to style. Pair a cropped knit over a cute dress or skirt and a longer knit over your favourite jeans, layering with a leather jacket for an extra edge.  You can get my rust knit here

Lace, River Island

A light knit will see you through the spring, summer and autumn seasons. Layer up or down as the temperatures change (which is common in Ireland).  A pretty jumper will take you from day to night easily!!

Some of my favourite knits at the moment:

Frills, ribbon details and mesh are high on trend this season and all are super flattering to wear. Many of my readers will know at this stage, that I am big on quality over quantity with everything (something my bank balance does not thank me for at times!!) So my advice is, if you really love something and you will genuinely get the wear out of it, then go for it! The reality is, it will go far if the quality and brand is good. Look outside the box too – if you purchase something from a small boutique or a different brand on a website such as ASOS, subsequently the chances are your choice will be unique and no one else will probably have it!

I recently did a collaboration with my favourite little boutique, Whitefawn Boutique, and wore this bomber jacket. How fab is the embellishment though!!  I’m also a sucker for neutral and pastel colours.  You can get it here

The bomber jacket has proved a staple piece, especially more so in the last year and looks set to stay for now.  It is the perfect little jacket to take you into spring/summer weather and with all the new styles landing, now is the perfect time to stock up!  Pair with your favourite skinnies and an oversized tee.  Here are some of my favourites in stock at the moment:

Finally, last but not least, this has to be one of my favourites!! Yes, a little more pricey but if it is a piece that you would get so much wear out of, definitely worth it and VERY unique!

There was a definite feel of summer in the air over the bank holiday weekend, happy days 🙂

My fringe and lace obsession is still going strong and on Sunday I paired my lace slip with my skinny jeans, embroidered jacket from Whitefawn Boutique and fringe booties. I added my beloved embellished belt, also from Whitefawn Boutique and because we are not quite there yet with heat wave temperatures, added my leather jacket so as not to freeze to death!

I am also loving choker necklaces right now and picked up this beautiful boho one in Penneys for just €4!! Who doesn’t love a bargain.
